He was effective in initiating economic and political reforms, one of which was the drafting of Thailand's "Peoples' Constitution", which was promulgated in 1997 and abrogated in 2006. Anand received a Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service in 1997.Education and career in civil service and business
Anand was the youngest child of twelve children[1] of a rich family of Mon heritage from his father's side and Thai-Chinese (Hokkien[2]) from his mother's.[3][4] According to Anand himself, Anand inherited his Chinese heritage from his maternal grandmother, whose surname was Lau (Chinese: 刘).[5] He attended Dulwich College and later read law at Trinity College, Cambridge, graduating with honours in 1955.

Anand spent 23 years in the foreign service, serving at times as the Ambassador of Thailand to the United Nations, Canada, the United States, and West Germany. In January 1976 he was appointed Permanent Secretary of the foreign ministry, and played a leading role in ensuring the US military withdrawal from Thailand. Following that year's October coup Anand was branded a communist by the military during the subsequent political witch hunts.[6] Although the civil service panel set up to investigate the allegations cleared him of any wrongdoing, Anand was put aside into relatively unimportant posts and in 1979 left the public sector for the private sector.[7] He became the Vice-Chairman of the Saha-Union Group in 1979 and the Chairman of the Board of Directors in 1991. He has been a Director of Siam Commercial Bank since 1984.[8]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anand_PanyarachunISAChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18034374529649706147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8579227473382315539.post-39757633150406818352009-05-30T12:27:21.901+08:002009-05-30T12:27:21.901+08:00Banharn Silpa-archa

He has been a veteran Sino-Thai Member of Parliament since 1976 as the elected representative of Suphanburi province. Since then, he has enjoyed unchallenged domination in Suphanburi. In every election he participated, he won by a landslide victory, receiving on average 60 to 90 per cent of the votes cast. Since 1994, he has been the leader of the opposition, Chart Thai Party, one of the oldest parties in Thailand. Between 1995 and 1996, he was the Prime Minister. Throughout this seemingly versatile career, however, Banharn has been involved in numerous corruption scandals one of which diminished the concordance in his administration and caused him to resign. Many Thais call him all sorts of pejorative names, such as "Mr. ATM", portraying him as a politician who dispenses dirty money under the table to anyone who needs it. His short-lived yet highly inept administration is also believed to have paved the way for the economic crisis of 1997.

Born in Suphanburi Province, he is a Thai Chinese,[3] with ancestry from Chaoyang.[4] Part of his Thai name, Archa (อาชา), is a translation of his Chinese surname, Mǎ (馬), meaning "horse". On 21 January 2008, Banharn held a press conference in which he officially announced the merging of his Chart Thai Party with Thai Rak Thai's nominee party, the People's Power Party. Because he had earlier vowed before the Emerald Buddha never to rejoin Thaksin because of the his corruption scandals, Banharn has been given a new nickname — "Slippery Eel."ISAChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18034374529649706147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8579227473382315539.post-86300730130472726502009-05-30T12:25:16.490+08:002009-05-30T12:25:16.490+08:00Chuan Leekpai

A third-generation Thai Chinese[1][2], Chuan was born in Trang province in a grass-roofed house. The walls of his family's house were woven from strips of betel-nut wood. The floor was the soil. His father's name was Niyom Leekpai and his mother's name was Tuan Leekpai. They were half-Chinese parents like most Trang locals. His father was a teacher and he earned modest wages. Tuan Leekpai sold Thai desserts and worked in a para rubber garden. Chuan Leekpai has 9 siblings and is the third child in the family. Because of his big family, Chuan's childhood was not comfortable. Chuan moved to the temple school called 'Wat Amarintraram' in Bangkok where he lived for 6 years. Then he went to study Law at Thammasat University, Bangkok, Thailand. After he graduated, he worked as a lawyer and then as a politician. He has one son, Surabot Leekpai, with Pakdiporn Sujaritkul (his common-law wife). As the leader of the Democrat Party, Chuan was elected in 1992 after the abortive coup by General Suchinda Kraprayoon, thus becoming Thailand's first prime minister to come to power without either aristocratic or military backing. His first administration consisted of a five party coalition of the Democrat, New Aspiration, Palang Dhamma, Social Action and Social Unity Parties until he was defeated in the 1995 election, but assumed power in late 1997 following the fall of the Chavalit Yongchaiyut administration, which was held responsible for the economic crisis that beset Thailand in 1997. Although being criticised as a slow actor, Chuan managed to meet factional demands while abiding by the rule of law.

Contents [hide]
1 Raluek Leekpai Scandal
2 First Term (1992-1995)
3 Second Term (1997-2001)
3.1 Economic Reforms
3.2 Human Rights
3.3 Corruption
4 Criticisms
5 Royal decorations
5.1 Foreign decorations
6 Quotes
7 References

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuan_LeekpaiISAChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18034374529649706147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8579227473382315539.post-14331924602314145832009-05-30T12:23:22.808+08:002009-05-30T12:23:22.808+08:00Chitchai Wannasathit

Surayud Chulanont (Thai: สุรยุทธ์ จุลานนท์, RTGS: Surayut Chulanon) is a Thai political figure. He was the Prime Minister of Thailand and head of Thailand's Interim Government between 2006 and 2008. He was a former Thai military officer, Army Commander, Supreme Commander, and currently Privy Councilor to King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Surayud came from a military family, but Surayud's father defected from the Royal Thai Army to the Communist Party of Thailand when Surayud was a young boy. Surayud joined the Thai Army and rose to power as a close aide to General Prem Tinsulanonda. He commanded troops during Bloody May, the violent 1992 crackdown on anti-government protestors, but he denied giving his men the order to shoot protesters. He was promoted to Army Commander during the government of Chuan Leekpai and was promoted to Supreme Commander in 2003, under the government of Thaksin Shinawatra. Upon retirement from the Army, King Bhumibol Adulyadej appointed Surayud to his Privy Council of personal advisors. Surayud and Privy Council President Prem Tinsulanonda played a key role in the promotion of General Sonthi Boonratklin to the position of Army Commander.

General Sonthi overthrew the government of Thaksin Shinawatra in a coup on 19 September 2006 and soon afterwards appointed Surayud as Prime Minister. Surayud's government was a controversial one. There was a significant worsening in perceived levels of corruption during his government.[1] Surayud's Deputy Finance Minister, Sommai Pasee, was sentenced to jail for abuse of power.[2] Surayud raised the military budget by 35% and was accused of economic mismanagement, rampant human rights abuses, and flip-flopping on numerous policies. Article 19 ranked Thailand as falling behind Cambodia and Indonesia in terms of freedom of expression.[3] Thailand's economic growth rate slowed to the lowest level in five years and was ranked the lowest in the region.[4][5] However, Surayud was praised for apologizing for atrocities committed by the Thai military fighting the South Thailand insurgency, although the apology was accompanied by a sharp escalation in violence. He has been accused of forest reserve encroachment (a charge that was not investigated since the statute of limitations had run out by 2 years) and illegally acquiring train carriages for display in his forest home. He is married to Chitravadi Santhadwet Chulanont (Thai: จิตรวดี สันทัดเวช) and has three sons, Nam, Khao and Captain Non.ISAChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18034374529649706147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8579227473382315539.post-46946479495950651502009-05-30T12:13:24.322+08:002009-05-30T12:13:24.322+08:00Sorang lagi PM Thai.
